The Birthday Meeting

The Birthday Meeting is a yearly occasion when Triform residents can reflect on the course and meaning of their lives, helped by whatever guidance is wished for or needed. The house parents arrange it well in advance, to fall on or near the actual birthday. They consult with the birthday person about whom to invite; the circle usually consists of parents, two or three Triform co-workers who work or live with the person, and perhaps one or two outside friends.

A Birthday Meeting has reverberations throughout the community; we all recognize the event as festive, and the day as eventful. In the house where it takes place, we try to create an atmosphere of respect and reverence. The meeting begins with the lighting of a candle and the reading of the appropriate verse from the Calendar of the Soul, or sometimes another verse which is particularly relevant to the individual’s life at that moment. A Birthday Meeting is, above all, a celebration.
